Why we're called Phat Rocks

Every label needs a name that says something before the first record is out. Ours is two words, one from each side of the crate.

Phat

Hip-hop slang for heavy, rich, done right. A beat is phat when the low end hits and the groove sits. That's the bar for everything we put out.

Rocks

Rock and roll: the attitude of the format. And something solid you can hold, like a record that still sounds good the hundredth time the needle drops.

The name is a promise that every record has street in it.

One region, one crate

Phat Rocks isn't from one city. It's a label for the whole of Latin America: Buenos Aires, Bogotá, São Paulo, Mexico City, Santiago, Lima, Havana, San Juan and every scene in between. Jazz, hip-hop, R&B and funk made by people who play in real rooms for real crowds.

It also means the object matters. A record with street in it should feel good in your hands and look right on the shelf, wherever it was made.

In Spanish we say it shorter: discos con calle. Records with street in them. That's the whole idea, in three words.
